Firm says device 'liberates' owners from scooping poop
A high tech pet products innovation firm has launched what it says is the world's first instant-action self-flushing cat toilet.
Singapore-based petgugu, which specialises in AI and robotics, said the cat toilet "liberates" owners from the familiar issues of stored waste, bad smells, bacteria and chores such as poop-scooping.
The machine works by taking water in from the household water supply and flushing poo fragments into the sewer system.
It uses motion and weight detection along with infrared vision to work out when a cat had finished doing its business and left the device, and then separates the scat from the litter and flushes the poop into a micro-blender to prepare it for its departure into the waste exit pipe.
Waste litter is deposited into a draw for easy removal.
The firm said anti-trap stop mechanisms protect animals from accidents if they approach or try to re-enter, complemented by kitten and senior modes for lighter or less mobile pets.
Petgugu added the 80-litre cabin is big enough for even larger breeds and features an enclosed design for 'privacy and comfort'.
As described in a release distributed by PR Newswire, the toilet deploys suction, silicon filters and ultraviolet sterilisation with optional light-activated catalysts to eliminate smells and bacteria.

Potential buyers are advised to check waterworks compatibility before purchase, and water soluble litter varieties such as tofu or mixed tofu and bentonite are recommended.
Cat owners can also use the toilet to monitor their feline friends' health, with each visit logged along with time, frequency, duration and body weight to provide a high tech data feed via the petgugu app to make changes and conditions such as constipation or other illness easier to spot, and daily, weekly and monthly health reports available.
There's also a video option.
A petgugu spokesman added: "An integrated wide-angle camera records each toileting session in the local cloud.
"These videos provide an additional diagnostic reference—allowing pet parents to confirm changes such as softer stools, longer squatting times, or repeated attempts to urinate.
"Privacy is fully protected, with access restricted to authorized accounts only, while ensuring compliance with local regulations regarding online privacy and information security.
"Together, these features transform the self-flushing Smart Cat Toilet into a true health guardian, not just cleaning after cats, but proactively safeguarding their wellbeing."
Petgugu announced the launch as it showed off its cat toilet to delegates at IFA 2025 innovation expo in Berlin.
The petgugu cat toilet retails at $1499.99 in US Dollars, at time of writing, and ships globally.
