There was a time during my former career as a local newspaper reporter when I regarded a surplus of ‘fluff’ – as in light-hearted content about cosy or upbeat topics – derisively: a shirking of a journalist's responsibilities to the public. So while I maintain a respect for those reporting on the courts, abuses of power, various injustices, heavy social issues, and so on, and recognise their value, it’s with some irony that, yes readers, it’s been something of a journey and it’s with some irony that for practical and pragmatic reasons I now almost exclusively turn my attentions to writing about more literal ‘fluff’. That’s to say fluffy and furry animals, maybe occasionally scaly or chitinous too, and what for now at least will have to be generally light content. So, welcome at last, to Who’s Your Mate? Pet News™: to the start of this journey, as we heave this humble boat with a dream in its sail out to sea. You can read about the background to the website’s name and about me stumbling my way into it as a combined programming and writing project in the About section, and although there’s not much to see at the moment, please feel free to have a look around. For desktop users, check out the hover effects on various parts of the site, give the black cat a couple of clicks – at the top of the page and the bottom, mull the WYMPN Pets Cup page and whether to enter, check out the ‘typo jar’ and give it a click too and get in touch to report any typos or other errors to get it off the mark – it’s not there so I can claim mistakes were deliberate but it certainly helps. With introductions out of the way, thank you for reading, thank you for your patience in the site’s content building up, and make sure to check back now and then for updates. For dogs and cats, rabbits and fancy rats, and all the others held dear, it’s time to cast off and head for the horizon.
